General Information
The beautiful miniature Australian Shepherd is a smaller version of the standard Australian Shepherd. The mini Aussie is 14 to 18 inches tall. Under 14 inches, you officially have the toy version, and over 18 inches is standard size. The lifespan of the miniature Australian Shepherd is around 13 years. Naturally, some will live a bit longer, and some not as long, but they do require some attention when it comes to their quality of life and their lifestyle. This is a dog that will do fine if you live in an apartment or small home with no yard, but you will need to ensure that the dog has plenty of exercise, long walks and activities to keep him busy physically and mentally. He likes to have at least one long daily walk to expend some of that ample energy that miniature Australian Shepherds are known to exhibit. But keeping his mind busy is key! Additionally, this is a dog breed that is very capable of spending hours outside playing and having a good time. That’s why it’s a great dog to have in a family with kids that are willing and happy to play with him, teach him fun tricks. Anything to engage his brain! The miniature Australian Shepherd has a very simple coat that is easy to brush and requires only a weekly brushing to remove dead hair and to keep it from shedding so much in your home. A home or professional de-shed process monthly will keep the shedding (and vacuuming) at a minimum!
